Sean “Diddy” Combs, according to sources familiar with his legal situation, has been informed by federal authorities in the Southern District of New York that he is currently under investigation.
Sources confirm that a federal grand jury is actively reviewing evidence related to the investigation, although there are no imminent charges reported.
A spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney’s Office declined to provide comment on the matter, while requests for comment from Combs’ legal representatives went unanswered.
Legal experts define a subject of investigation as someone within the scope of a criminal inquiry, distinct from a target whom prosecutors are likely to indict.
Sources indicate that Combs has not received a target letter, which is not mandatory from the Southern District of New York during this phase of investigation.
This development follows recent raids by law enforcement officials at Combs’ residences in Los Angeles and Miami three months ago.
In May, Combs publicly apologized after a video surfaced showing him assaulting his then-girlfriend Cassandra “Cassie” Ventura at a Los Angeles hotel in 2016.
In an Instagram post, Combs took full responsibility for the incident, acknowledging a period of personal struggle.
Initially denying Ventura’s allegations of assault and sex trafficking outlined in a federal lawsuit from November, Combs settled with Ventura for an undisclosed sum the day after admitting to the assault.
Attorney Meredith Firetog, representing Ventura, criticized Combs for denying the allegations until evidence disproved his claims, describing his subsequent apology as belated and insincere.
Regarding potential involvement in grand jury proceedings, Ventura’s legal representatives did not respond to queries.
Meanwhile, Combs faces additional civil lawsuits, including recent accusations of sex trafficking from a former adult film star, which his legal team has not yet addressed publicly.
Throughout these legal challenges, Combs has consistently maintained his innocence and has not been formally charged with any criminal offenses.
