Talecka Brown, a 32-year-old mother from Maryland, has been charged with first-degree attempted murder after allegedly shooting her 13-year-old daughter in a disturbing case of domestic violence.
The incident occurred on Monday, September 23, in Seat Pleasant, Maryland, when local police responded to a call about a shooting in the family home. Upon arrival, authorities found the teenage victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body.
Court documents indicate that Brown and her daughter were engaged in an argument that escalated into physical violence.
According to the victim, as she walked down the stairs, Brown shot her in the back of the neck. The victim told investigators that Brown later instructed her to lie to police, claiming she had been shot by an intruder.
The Seat Pleasant Police Department reported that Brown gave conflicting statements when officers questioned her at the scene.
Brown was arrested and charged with first-degree attempted murder, along with several other charges. She appeared in court on Wednesday, September 25, where she requested home detention. However, the judge denied her request, ordering her to be held without bond.
The 13-year-old girl was initially in critical condition but is now reported to be stable and recovering in the hospital. Medical professionals remain concerned about potential long-term effects, including possible paralysis due to the severity of her injuries.
Assistant Prince George’s County State’s Attorney, Ashley Sowls, revealed that Brown, during a phone call from jail to the child’s father, showed little concern for her daughter’s health. Instead, she allegedly stated that the charges would “disappear” if their daughter did not appear in court.
The legal proceedings continue as Brown is scheduled to appear in court again on October 25. She has not yet entered a plea to the charges.
