Wendy Williams Petitions Court to End Guardianship, Denies Dementia Diagnosis

Wendy Williams is taking legal action to regain control of her affairs. The former talk show host signed an affidavit on Wednesday asserting that she has “regained capacity” and no longer requires a court-appointed guardian.

Williams also refuted claims that she has Frontotemporal Dementia, a progressive and typically irreversible condition.

According to TMZ, Williams is scheduled for a medical evaluation next Tuesday by a physician selected by her legal team. The following day, her attorney plans to file an Emergency Order to Show Cause, seeking an immediate hearing before the judge overseeing her guardianship. If the request is denied, Williams reportedly intends to demand a jury trial to determine her competency.

Williams’ guardianship case has drawn significant public scrutiny, especially after revelations in a TMZ documentary that she has been living under highly restrictive conditions, with no internet access, no incoming calls, no visitors, and limited freedom to leave her home.

Her legal battle signals a critical step in challenging court-imposed guardianships, raising broader questions about personal autonomy and due process in conservatorship proceedings.
