Pepa, of the iconic hip-hop duo Salt-N-Pepa, is preparing to take legal action against Southwest Airlines following a contentious incident during a flight from Las Vegas to Nashville on July 15.
According to reports, Pepa purchased two seats due to medical reasons related to a previous car accident. Despite wearing a knee brace, she was initially challenged by a flight attendant who insisted she occupy only one seat.
After initially resolving the issue and keeping both seats, Pepa faced another challenge when a passenger, citing urgent travel needs for a funeral, requested her extra seat.
Despite negotiations, the passenger ultimately received the seat.
The situation escalated when Pepa, advised by her assistant, began recording the encounter. Southwest Airlines subsequently removed Pepa from the flight, citing concerns over recording policies and safety.
Pepa documented the incident on Instagram, where she expressed her frustration with the airline’s actions. In response to the incident, Southwest Airlines reimbursed Pepa $2,500 for the purchased seats. A
dditionally, she incurred expenses for wheelchair assistance and car service, which were reportedly not utilized.
Pepa, a Kingston native, is reportedly exploring legal options, specifically looking into potential violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) regarding her seating accommodations and the circumstances leading to her removal from the flight.
