Woman Arrested For Driving Drunk 3 Times The Legal Limit And Killing A New Bride Released After Posting Bail

Jamie Lee Komoroski

A tragic incident on a South Carolina beach road last April has taken another turn as Jamie Lee Komoroski, 26, the woman accused of driving drunk and causing a crash that resulted in the death of a newlywed bride, has been released from custody after posting bail.

Komoroski faced charges of reckless homicide resulting in death and three counts of felony DUI resulting in great bodily injury or death after the crash claimed the life of Samantha Miller, 34, and left her husband, Aric Hutchinson, along with two other family members injured.

According to court documents, Komoroski’s blood alcohol content was found to be more than three times the legal limit for driving in South Carolina at the time of the crash.

The affidavit detailed that she was allegedly driving in a “nearly unconscious state” at 65 mph in a 25 mph zone when she rear-ended the golf cart carrying the newlyweds and their family members back to their hotel.

While Komoroski has been released on $150,000 bond, she will be placed on house arrest with an ankle monitor and is prohibited from driving. Additionally, she will be required to use a device to monitor her alcohol levels.

The decision to release Komoroski on bail was met with mixed reactions. Lisa Miller, the victim’s mother, expressed her anguish, stating, “You didn’t just — I’m sorry — she didn’t just kill my daughter. She killed all of us.” Meanwhile, Komoroski’s family advocated for her release, emphasizing her need for treatment for alcohol abuse.

The tragic incident has left lasting scars on the families involved. Hutchinson, the widowed husband, recalled his final moments with his bride, expressing his disbelief and devastation upon learning of her death.

In addition to the criminal charges, Hutchinson has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Komoroski, alleging her gross intoxication contributed to the fatal crash. The lawsuit also involves the bars where Komoroski allegedly consumed alcohol before the incident.

As the legal proceedings continue, the community grapples with the aftermath of the tragedy, highlighting the devastating consequences of driving under the influence.
