The U.S. Department of State has confirmed a technical error affecting a small number of DV-2025 Diversity Visa lottery results for entrants from Great Britain and certain British Overseas Territories.
The agency is advising applicants to recheck their status through the Entrant Status Check portal using the confirmation number issued at the time of registration.
According to the update, some applicants who initially received a “not selected” notification may now be listed as selected — and vice versa. The affected regions include:
- Anguilla
- Bermuda
- British Virgin Islands
- British Indian Ocean Territory
- Cayman Islands
- Falkland Islands
- Gibraltar
- Montserrat
- Pitcairn
- South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands
- St. Helena
- Turks and Caicos Islands
Northern Ireland, which is treated separately for Diversity Visa purposes, is not impacted by the correction.
Selected entrants have until September 30, 2025 — or until all DV-2025 visas are issued, whichever comes first — to submit the DS-260 immigrant visa application, complete a medical examination, and attend an interview with all required documentation.
The State Department is urging applicants to act promptly to avoid processing delays.
The DV Program, often referred to as the “green card lottery,” allocates up to 55,000 immigrant visas annually to applicants from countries with historically low rates of immigration to the United States.
While administrative corrections to lottery results are rare, immigration attorneys note that such changes can carry significant implications for applicants who must meet strict deadlines to secure their visa eligibility.
