A 19-year-old California man has been arrested and charged with murder after allegedly striking and killing a pregnant 16-year-old girl in a hit-and-run incident in Riverside, approximately 55 miles east of Los Angeles.
The victim, identified by her family as Kaylie Corona, was reportedly confronting the suspect, Issac Blackhorse Garcia, for having sex with her underaged sister moments before the fatal collision.
The incident occurred around 11:45 p.m. on Sunday, February 2nd, outside the victim’s home. According to investigators, Blackhorse Garcia had come to the house to drop off Corona’s sister when family members approached his vehicle to confront him about his alleged relationship with the underaged girl. As tensions escalated, Blackhorse Garcia allegedly attempted to speed away, striking Corona in the process.
Ring camera footage captured the chaotic aftermath, showing family members rushing toward the street where Corona’s body lay, screaming in distress. Blackhorse Garcia fled the scene but was later apprehended by authorities. He faces charges of murder, hit-and-run resulting in death, and unlawful sex with a minor. He is currently being held without bail.
Emergency responders rushed Corona to a local hospital with severe injuries, but she later succumbed to her wounds. Hospital staff delivered her infant, who remains in critical condition at a children’s hospital, according to Law & Crime.
In a moving GoFundMe post, Corona’s family expressed their grief over the loss of their “precious baby girl,” describing her as a vibrant teenager with a bright future.
“At just 16 years old, she had a promise-filled life and was eagerly looking forward to becoming a mother and meeting her baby,” the family wrote. “Tragically, on the night of February 2nd, her life was taken from us in an instant, leaving our family and friends utterly devastated.”
Neighbors recounted the harrowing scene to local media. Miriam Betaman, a neighbor, told KABC, “There was a car that just flew really fast through here…We saw a girl that was right on the street, just laying flat.” Another neighbor, Christopher Garrett, recalled seeing Corona frequently walking through the neighborhood. “We would see her walking through the neighborhood getting some exercise,” he said.
The case has sparked outrage and sorrow in the Riverside community, as authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. Blackhorse Garcia’s alleged actions have raised questions about accountability and the protection of minors, particularly in cases involving unlawful relationships and violence.
As the legal proceedings unfold, Corona’s family and supporters are rallying for justice, while the community mourns the loss of a young life cut tragically short.
