Deveca Rose, a 30-year-old London mother, has been convicted of manslaughter following the tragic deaths of her two sets of twin boys, who perished in a house fire after being left home alone.
On Dec. 16, 2021, the fire erupted in their Sutton residence, trapping Leyton and Logan Hoath, 3, and Kyson and Bryson Hoath, 4, who were unable to escape the locked house.
The boys were found unconscious by firefighters and later pronounced dead at the hospital. Prosecutors revealed that Rose had gone shopping, leaving her children in squalor, surrounded by rubbish, and without proper care.
A cigarette or tea light was believed to have ignited the fatal blaze. During her trial at the Old Bailey, the court heard that this wasn’t the first time Rose had left the boys unattended.
Despite her claims that she left the children with a friend, investigators found no evidence of this person. Rose was acquitted of child cruelty charges but now faces a lengthy prison sentence, with her sentencing scheduled for November.
The boys’ father, Dalton Hoath, expressed his devastation, describing his sons as “well-mannered” and “loved.”
Detective Chief Inspector Samantha Townsend said:
“Deveca Rose put her own self-interest above her children’s safety.”
