Twelve-year-old Serenity Manigault has initiated a lawsuit against multiple businesses in Downtown Savannah, Georgia, following the tragic death of her father, Marine Tristen Manigault.
The incident occurred on August 30, 2024, when Tristen Manigault was fatally wounded in a gunfire exchange while attempting to intervene in a fight.
The police investigation into his murder remains unresolved.
The lawsuit targets several establishments located in the Congress Street corridor, including Flock of the Wok, Octane Bar and Lounge, Smoke and Vape Market, and the Peacock Lounge.
Serenity’s legal team, led by attorney Mark Tate, argues that these businesses failed to provide adequate security, contributing to the environment that led to Manigault’s death.
Mark Tate contends that the businesses, which are situated in an area known for heightened criminal activity, neglected their duty to ensure patron safety.
“When businesses prioritize profits over the safety of their customers, the consequences can be severe,” Tate remarked. “This tragic incident underscores the need for these establishments to be held accountable.”
Tate further alleges that the businesses were aware of the potential risks associated with their locations and that insufficient safety measures led to the Marine’s preventable death.
“The lack of oversight and safety precautions created a hazardous environment,” Tate added. “Had these establishments been properly monitored and regulated, Tristen Manigault might still be alive.”
Serenity’s mother, Heather Delgado, expressed the ongoing emotional impact of the loss on her daughter.
“Serenity seeks accountability and improved safety measures in the area,” Delgado stated. “She wants those responsible to come forward and for the businesses to face consequences, even though it cannot bring her father back.”
In response to the tragedy, Octane Bar and Lounge has had its liquor license temporarily suspended. The Savannah Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding Tristen Manigault’s death.
