Rapper Remy Ma’s son, Jayson Scott, 23, was arrested on Tuesday in connection with the June 2021 murder of Darius Guillebeaux in Queens, New York.
According to the New York Police Department, Scott faces charges of first-degree murder for allegedly shooting Guillebeaux, 47, following a dispute.
Richard Swygert, 22, was also charged in the same incident, albeit with lesser charges.
Guillebeaux was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds to the head and chest around 1 p.m. on June 7, 2021, and was pronounced dead after being taken to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center.
Before his death, Guillebeaux had been indicted by the New York attorney general as part of “Operation Heat Wave,” a major drug trafficking investigation that led to 54 arrests for heroin, fentanyl, and oxycodone distribution in upstate New York’s Jefferson County.
Remy Ma, born Reminisce Kioni Mackie and hailing from the Bronx, rose to fame under the mentorship of rapper Big Pun and was later signed by Fat Joe.
She gained prominence as a member of Fat Joe’s group, Terror Squad, and released her solo album “There’s Something About Remy” in 2006.
The Grammy-nominated artist has also won two BET Awards for Best Female Hip-Hop Artist and appeared in various TV shows, including multiple seasons of VH1’s “Love & Hip Hop.”
She is married to fellow rapper Papoose, with whom she welcomed a child in 2018.
Remy Ma has faced legal challenges in the past, including a 2008 conviction for assault and illegal weapons possession stemming from a shooting incident in a Manhattan deli in July 2007, for which she served approximately six years in prison.
The case involving her son, Jayson Scott, is currently under investigation by the NYPD as they continue to gather evidence and prepare for legal proceedings.
