Seattle authorities are grappling with a tragic incident that unfolded in the Magnolia Neighborhood, resulting in the death of a 9-month-old baby boy on Wednesday, May 8.
Dion Lamont Montgomery, a 50-year-old resident, stands accused of fatally shooting his sleeping son on Wednesday night.
He is currently held in King County Jail on a staggering $5 million bail.
Reports from KIRO7 indicate that law enforcement responded to a shooting in the 3000 block of 21st Avenue West around 6:30 p.m.
A woman at the scene informed officers that her child had been shot, and despite desperate efforts, the infant succumbed to the injuries.
Court documents reveal that following this harrowing incident, Montgomery discharged several shots at two individuals near 22nd Avenue West and Thorndyke Avenue West.
Fortunately, no one was injured in this subsequent gunfire. Witnesses recounted seeing Montgomery fire multiple shots before fleeing the scene.
He was apprehended by police three blocks away. During his interaction with law enforcement, Montgomery confessed to using PCP and attributed his actions to demons.
Both Montgomery and his wife, the mother of the deceased child, were taken into custody for questioning. The mother recounted being in the bathroom at the time of the shooting and hearing the fatal shot.
When she inquired about the noise, Montgomery allegedly claimed it was a blank. Tragically, subsequent investigation revealed it to be the gunshot that claimed their son’s life.
Following the shooting, Montgomery left the apartment, leaving behind a distraught mother who rushed to check on her son before seeking assistance from bystanders. Law enforcement located her at the scene.
Montgomery failed to appear in court on Thursday, resulting in the proceedings proceeding in his absence.
The court established probable cause for Murder in the First Degree, two counts of Assault in the First Degree, and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm in the First Degree.
The tragic incident has left the community in shock and mourning, as authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the heartbreaking loss of the young child.
