GOP Presidential frontrunner Donald Trump has expressed his support for IVF treatment, aligning himself with a growing faction of Republicans seeking to distance themselves from a controversial Alabama court ruling.
The ruling, which bestowed the same rights on frozen embryos as children and imposed liability for their destruction, prompted several clinics to halt IVF services.
Trump urged Alabama to swiftly resolve the matter, emphasizing the importance of facilitating parenthood rather than impeding it.
“We want to make it easier for mothers and fathers to have babies, not harder! That includes supporting the availability of fertility treatments like IVF in every State in America,” the former president wrote on his Truth Social platform.
“[Just as] the vast majority of Republicans, Conservatives, Christians, and Pro-Life Americans, I strongly support the availability of IVF for couples who are trying to have a precious baby,” he added.
His stance underscores a broader Republican sentiment favoring IVF accessibility, particularly among conservatives, Christians, and pro-life advocates.
Alabama’s Republican Attorney General also assured that IVF providers wouldn’t face prosecution, aiming to allay concerns within the state.
Trump’s remarks, the first on this issue, reflect opposition to a ruling that some Republicans fear could alienate key voter demographics.
To distance themselves from the controversy, the National Republican Senate Committee directed candidates to support IVF and advocate for increased access to the treatment in a memo to campaigners.
This concerted effort highlights the party’s commitment to preserving IVF options and potentially attracting crucial voter support.
