Brandon Moss, an 18-year-old Ramsay High School graduate and Fairfield native, has officially launched his campaign to become the next mayor of Fairfield, Alabama.
If elected, Moss would make history as one of the youngest mayors in the state’s history, bringing youthful energy and a platform focused on fiscal reform, business development, and urban renewal.
“Fairfield is my home, and I’m running for mayor because I love this city, and I believe in its future,” Moss said during his campaign announcement Saturday.
Moss enters a competitive race ahead of the August 26 municipal election, with current Mayor Eddie Penny not seeking re-election. Other candidates vying for the seat include Councilman Herman Carnes, Councilman Cedric Norman, former Midfield Councilman James Reasor, and financial consultant Michael Williams.
Despite his age, Moss brings a notable résumé to the race. Over the past four years, he has worked closely with state-level politicians and served as the executive assistant to the superintendent of Birmingham City Schools.
“I would say I have experience… working on the state level… and I’ve had a hands-on perspective of leadership,” Moss said, addressing concerns about his youth.
Campaign Priorities

Moss is running on a platform that zeroes in on Fairfield’s most pressing challenges:
- Municipal Finances: “My biggest one is the finances part.”
- Business Growth: “We need more businesses.”
- Infrastructure Improvement: “I would say our infrastructure [is next].”
- Urban Blight: Moss says revitalizing the city’s neighborhoods is key.
He also spoke about the importance of generational leadership:
“We as the next generation have to be able to move with the times—we have to mature—to be the leaders of the future.”
While many of his peers are enjoying a post-graduation summer, Moss is instead navigating campaign strategy, city policy, and preparing to balance college coursework with public service.
“Power and responsibility are not about age. They’re about readiness. And I am ready,” Moss stated confidently.
