Texas attorney Tony Buzbee, known for spearheading multiple legal actions against Sean “Diddy” Combs, has officially withdrawn from over a dozen federal lawsuits filed against the music mogul in the Southern District of New York (SDNY).
Court documents reveal that Buzbee stepped down from 15 sex trafficking cases after it was revealed that he is not licensed to practice in that jurisdiction.
Buzbee’s withdrawal follows challenges from Diddy’s legal team, which argued that the attorney lacked the proper authorization to file lawsuits in SDNY.
In response, Buzbee acknowledged the issue before U.S. District Judge Ronnie Abrams, admitting that he made “an error in judgment” by failing to disclose his lack of admission to the court.
Despite Buzbee’s departure, the lawsuits remain active, with New York-based firms taking over representation. The high-profile litigation stems from allegations of sexual misconduct and trafficking against Diddy, which the rapper has vehemently denied.
Buzbee clarified his position in a statement to TMZ, noting that while he personally withdrew from the SDNY cases, his firm did not.
He further stated that he is a licensed attorney in New York State and is admitted to practice in the Eastern District of New York.
According to Buzbee, a grievance filed by Jay-Z in an unrelated matter contributed to the delay in his SDNY admission.
Although Buzbee is no longer handling the SDNY lawsuits, he remains actively involved in legal actions against Diddy in other jurisdictions.
The development marks a procedural shake-up in the ongoing legal battle surrounding the music mogul, as plaintiffs continue to seek justice in cases now led by new legal counsel.
