Wendy Williams Reaches Out To Attorney Joe Tacopina In Move to Terminate Guardianship

Television personality Wendy Williams is taking legal steps to regain control of her personal and financial affairs, enlisting high-profile attorney Joe Tacopina to challenge the court-appointed guardianship that has governed her life for over two years.

Tacopina, known for representing high-profile clients such as A$AP Rocky, confirmed on the 2 Angry Men podcast that Williams reached out to him after watching TMZ Investigates: Saving Wendy Williams. Expressing concern over her situation, he remarked, “Murderers have more freedom than Wendy.”

A key point of contention in Williams’ case is her claim that she has been confined to a memory care facility, requiring approval from an attendant to leave. This contrasts with statements from her court-appointed guardian, attorney Sabrina Morrissey, who told Vanity Fair, “Nobody’s saying that Wendy can’t leave a building.”

In the documentary, Williams asserted that she was permitted outside only twice in 30 days, both times for dental appointments.

Williams’ legal team is now actively seeking to terminate the guardianship, which was established in 2022 after concerns about her health and financial well-being. Tacopina, who also discussed his involvement in A$AP Rocky’s legal matters and ongoing litigation involving Sean “Diddy” Combs, is expected to play a central role in the legal strategy to restore Williams’ autonomy.

The case raises broader questions about the legal standards for guardianship, the rights of individuals under such arrangements, and the mechanisms for terminating court-imposed oversight.
