Mother Seeks Justice After Son Found Dead in Car During Traffic Stop

Kenya and Malachi Mitchell

A Georgia mother is demanding answers after her 21-year-old son, Malachi Mitchell, was found dead in a vehicle during a traffic stop, while the driver was questioned and released without charges.

The case, which remains under review, has raised concerns over law enforcement’s handling of the incident and the lack of immediate accountability.

According to a report by 11 Alive, Malachi’s mother, Kenya Mitchell, was not notified of her son’s death until nearly 48 hours later. She alleges that the driver admitted to shooting Malachi but has yet to face any legal consequences.

Unanswered Questions Surrounding Malachi Mitchell’s Death

Malachi Mitchell

Kenya Mitchell recounted that her son left home around 11:30 p.m. on January 29. The family later learned that Malachi had agreed to meet the driver for a firearm sale.

Using location tracking, Kenya discovered her son’s last known location near I-20 off Thornton Road in Douglas County, where she encountered sheriff’s deputies but did not see her son.

“The first question they continued to ask me was how did I know to come to the location?” Kenya Mitchell told 11 Alive.

Later, authorities confirmed that Malachi was the deceased individual found in the back of the vehicle during the traffic stop. Despite this, the driver was questioned and released, leaving the Mitchell family seeking justice.

Call for Accountability

Kenya Mitchell expressed her disbelief at the lack of immediate legal action.

“There’s nowhere on God’s green earth that anyone can be reckless driving, running through red lights, and have a deceased body in the car and walk away,” she said.

Outraged by the inaction, she also made a plea to the driver’s family:

“Do the right thing. Have some integrity about yourself.”

Ongoing Investigation

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has taken over the case and is currently conducting an autopsy to determine the official cause of death.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has yet to release further details regarding whether charges will be filed against the driver.
