Texas Congressman Al Green has announced the filing of articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump.
Green, a Democrat, is accusing Trump of attempting to take control of the Gaza Strip, an action he deems as an impeachable offense.
The articles are in response to a controversial statement made by President Trump during a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday, where Trump expressed his desire for the U.S. to take ownership of the Gaza Strip and redevelop it after the resettlement of Palestinians.

Green, who previously made history as the first Democrat to file impeachment articles during Trump’s first term, denounced Trump’s proposal as an act of “ethnic cleansing.” During a speech on Wednesday, Green drew a parallel between the situation in Gaza and broader human rights issues, invoking the words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
“Dr. King was right. Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. And injustice in Gaza is a threat to justice in the United States of America,” Green stated. He vowed to file the impeachment articles for “dastardly deeds proposed and dastardly deeds done.”
Green disclosed that this impeachment movement would be driven by the people.
“The people have got to move forward. The people have to demand it. And when they demand it, it will be done,” he said.
Details regarding the articles of impeachment remain limited, including the exact timing of their filing. This move comes amid a Republican-controlled Congress, raising questions about the likelihood of the articles even being voted on.
This is not the first time Rep. Green has called for the impeachment of President Trump. Green was a co-leader of the second attempt to impeach Trump following the U.S. Capitol riot in January 2021.
Trump was impeached twice during his first term but was acquitted by the Senate both times.
