In a high-profile legal case, a Fulton County judge has denied bond for Brandon Dillard, a prominent veneer technician in Atlanta, accused of operating as a fake dentist and performing illegal veneer installations without a license.
Dillard, who allegedly made over $4 million through unlicensed dental procedures, will remain in custody until his trial.
Judge Holly Hughes ruled against granting bond, citing concerns that Dillard would continue performing unauthorized dental work if released.
“I do believe he poses a risk,” Hughes said. “And the risk isn’t necessarily he’s out there with a gun shooting people. Risk is also when you are practicing medicine or dentistry without the proper licenses. Things can go horribly wrong.”
The court’s decision comes after prosecutors revealed that Dillard had been issued a cease-and-desist order from the State Dental Board earlier this year but reportedly ignored the directive, continuing to perform veneer procedures.
Authorities argue that his ongoing disregard for the law makes him a danger to the public.
Dillard’s case has drawn significant attention due to the scale of the illegal operations and the potential risks involved in unlicensed dental work.
The decision to deny bond underscores the court’s concern for public safety and its emphasis on the severity of practicing dentistry without proper credentials.
As the case proceeds, legal experts anticipate further scrutiny on the operations of unlicensed dental practices and the legal ramifications of continuing after receiving formal cease-and-desist orders.
