Sean “Diddy” Combs’ legal battle took a significant turn as a judge denied his bail request a second time, remanding the music mogul to custody pending trial on charges of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking.
The charges, which have sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry, have prompted a strong defense from Diddy’s legal team, led by attorney Teny Geragos.
Appearing on the news program Cuomo, Geragos emphasized Diddy’s innocence and sought to distinguish his case from those of R. Kelly and Jeffrey Epstein, high-profile figures previously convicted on similar charges.
“What was notable today, what my partner Mark said in court, is they never once said that these women didn’t consent to what happened. Not once,” Geragos stated, pointing out a critical aspect of the case.
Geragos stressed that unlike R. Kelly and Epstein, Diddy is not facing charges involving minors.
“No charges relating to minors. None,” she reiterated.
The absence of allegations involving underage victims marks a significant departure from other high-profile sex trafficking cases. Geragos underscored this, stating:
“So this is all adult consensual activity. People can judge it morally, but legally, you believe he committed no crime.”
The defense team has been conducting its own parallel investigation alongside law enforcement, interviewing witnesses to counter the prosecution’s narrative.
While the government claims to have spoken to over 50 witnesses, Geragos explained that Diddy’s team has also been diligently gathering evidence to demonstrate his innocence.
The legal team’s strategy centers on the argument that Diddy’s actions, though controversial, do not amount to criminal conduct.
“A lifestyle and being present in activities doesn’t mean he committed a crime,” Geragos told Cuomo. “Maybe it’s not what someone here would do in the bedroom, but that doesn’t mean that what he did was a crime.”
As the case unfolds, the defense is poised to challenge the charges aggressively, aiming to clear Diddy’s name and refute the allegations against him.
Geragos assured viewers that Diddy will continue to fight these charges, maintaining that he is not only not guilty but innocent of any wrongdoing.
