Attorney Ben Crump to Premiere Documentary “How to Sue the Klan” On Sept. 17

Attorney-Ben-Crump

Prominent civil rights attorney Ben Crump will host a special screening of the documentary “How to Sue the Klan” at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC) on Tuesday, September 17.

The event, organized by UTC’s Division of Access and Engagement, will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Fine Arts Center in Roland Hayes Hall. Attorney Crump’s appearance comes after he was unable to attend the film’s original premiere earlier this year.

The documentary, directed by Emmy-nominated filmmaker John Beder, highlights the landmark legal case in which five Black women from Chattanooga successfully sued the Ku Klux Klan in 1982 for violence and intimidation.

This case, which established a significant legal precedent in the fight against hate groups and racism, remains an important chapter in civil rights history.

Following the screening, Attorney Crump and John Beder will participate in a panel discussion, where they will provide insights into the documentary’s creation and discuss the ongoing relevance of the case in contemporary efforts to combat racial violence and discrimination.

How to Sue the Klan has received nationwide praise, winning several prestigious awards for its powerful portrayal of historical events that continue to resonate in today’s legal landscape.

The event is free and open to the public, but tickets are required.
