Aaliyah Ross, a 27-year-old woman from Tampa, Florida, faces multiple serious charges after allegedly intentionally running over her boyfriend and their 16-month-old son during a confrontation.
According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began as an argument between Ross and her 25-year-old boyfriend.
During the altercation, Ross placed a 4-year-old and a 6-month-old in her car before getting into the driver’s seat. As the situation escalated, the boyfriend attempted to flee with their 16-month-old son.
Ross reportedly accelerated towards them, striking them with her vehicle before crashing into a trailer. She then left the scene, leaving her injured boyfriend and son behind.
The boyfriend sustained injuries to his body and lungs and was treated at a hospital before being released.
The 16-month-old boy remains hospitalized with severe injuries, including a broken shoulder and collarbone, multiple broken ribs, and other injuries.
Ross was later apprehended in Orlando after a warrant was issued for her arrest. During questioning, she admitted that she had previously threatened to run over her boyfriend but had swerved away at the last moment.
This time, she claimed she expected him to move out of the way, which he did not.
“Aaliyah Ross made a series of incredibly unthinkable choices Monday: running over a man and a baby with a car, leaving the baby alone, and failing to get medical treatment for the obviously injured baby,” Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said in a statement.
Authorities located the other two children, and the Florida Department of Children and Families is assessing their custody arrangement.
Ross is currently in custody at Orange County Jail and will be transferred to Polk County Jail.
She faces several charges, including aggravated child abuse, domestic aggravated battery, negligent child abuse, domestic battery, and leaving the scene of a crash with property damage.
