Ernesha Atmore, a 29-year-old woman from Florida, has been handed a 30-year prison sentence for shoplifting designer sunglasses valued at $20,000, according to reports by Fox 13.
The incident occurred at a Sunglass Hut store in Tampa, where Atmore was caught in the act. Reportedly armed with a taser, she threatened a store worker when confronted after attempting to conceal the stolen items in a cooler bag.
Authorities later found the stolen merchandise in her vehicle, leading to her arrest and subsequent charge of theft.
Atmore’s extensive history of shoplifting factored into the severity of her sentence. Despite being offered a plea deal of three years, she chose to proceed to trial.
However, this decision did not yield a favorable outcome, resulting in the 30-year imprisonment verdict.
Compounding her legal troubles, Atmore had two other theft cases pending at the time of the trial. The judge, considering her repeated offenses, extended her sentence by an additional six months.
Consequently, Atmore faces the prospect of remaining incarcerated until the age of 60 due to her actions, which stemmed from a shoplifting incident involving sunglasses.
