Daphne and Edriuna Davis, a mother-daughter duo from Alabama, achieved a remarkable milestone when they graduated from the Birmingham School of Law simultaneously.
In 2022, Daphne and Edriuna Davis walked across the stage together at the Bill Harris Arena, proudly receiving their Juris Doctorate degrees from the Birmingham School of Law!
Their achievement is not only a personal triumph but also a historic moment, as they are believed to be the first mother-daughter duo to graduate from the institution at the same time.
For Daphne, aged 52, the journey to law school was spurred by a life-changing event – her divorce. Encouraged by her attorney’s praise for her meticulous approach to her own divorce proceedings, Daphne embarked on a path towards legal education.
Despite initial apprehensions and challenges, including workload concerns and self-doubt, Daphne found support in her family and peers, ultimately thriving in the law school environment.
Meanwhile, Edriuna’s passion for law blossomed at a young age, inspired by her mother’s resilience and determination during her divorce.
After completing her undergraduate studies in political science, Edriuna chose to pursue her legal education at the Birmingham School of Law, following in her mother’s footsteps.

However, their journey was not without its trials. In the midst of her studies, Edriuna faced a health challenge – postpartum cardiomyopathy – shortly after giving birth to her son, Denver Davis.
Despite the setback, Edriuna persevered, supported by her family and her unwavering determination to succeed.
Looking ahead, both Daphne and Edriuna are preparing to sit for the Alabama bar exam. Edriuna plans to join her fiancé, Bobby L. Davis, in his law firm, specializing in various legal areas.
Daphne, on the other hand, intends to contribute her legal expertise to dispute resolution, particularly in the field of domestic relations, drawing from her own experiences.
Their remarkable achievement serves as an inspiration to aspiring legal professionals and a testament to the power of perseverance, determination, and familial support in overcoming challenges and achieving success.
