The Kentucky Senate has made a significant decision, voting in favor of granting the right to collect child support during pregnancy.
The bill, known as Senate Bill 110, secured a decisive victory with a 36-2 vote, as reported by @ABCNews.
Under this proposed legislation, parents would be allowed to retroactively seek child support payments for up to one year after the birth of their child.
State Senator Whitney Westerfield, a proponent of the bill, emphasized that it underscores the recognition that pregnancy imposes financial responsibilities on both parents.
“I believe that life begins at conception,” stated Westerfield. “But even if you don’t, there’s no question that there are obligations and costs involved with having children before that child is born.”
The passage of Senate Bill 110 reflects a broader acknowledgment of the economic challenges faced by expectant parents and aims to ensure financial support for children from the prenatal stage onwards.
This move marks a significant development in Kentucky’s legal landscape surrounding parental responsibilities and child welfare.
