Canadian rapper Tory Lanez, currently serving a 10-year prison sentence, has launched a fresh appeal, with hopes of overturning his conviction.

Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, was convicted in connection with a shooting incident involving Megan Thee Stallion in 2020.

The rapper was sentenced to 10 years in prison in Los Angeles County Superior Court for assaulting Megan Thee Stallion. He was found guilty of shooting Megan in the foot in July 2020 as they left a party at the home of celebrity Kylie Jenner.

In this latest appeal, Lanez’s defense is anchored on a petition filed by his driver, who asserts witnessing Lanez attempting to disarm Kelsey Harris, another individual present during the altercation, prior to the shooting.

The driver, however, did not witness who actually fired the gun.

Lanez’s legal team is banking on this new testimony to sway the court in his favor, as they seek to challenge his conviction and secure his release from prison.

Currently, Lanez’s earliest opportunity for a parole hearing looms in September 2029.

Despite the filing, California’s attorney general has yet to issue a response to Lanez’s appeal.

The deadline for the response brief is set for March 27, adding to the anticipation surrounding the ongoing legal battle.

Meanwhile, Kelsey Harris, a central figure in the case, has recently attracted attention following news of an upcoming interview where she is expected to shed light on the events leading up to the shooting.

While her previous testimony during the trial was limited, Harris hinted at the existence of potential video evidence capturing the altercation.

The impending interview has sparked curiosity among followers of the case, as Harris prepares to provide a firsthand account of the incident that has gripped headlines and fueled speculation since its occurrence.

As Lanez continues his legal maneuvers and Harris prepares to share her perspective, the saga surrounding the shooting incident shows no signs of abating, leaving both supporters and observers eagerly awaiting further developments in this high-profile case.
